Scottish Government Short-Term Lets Consulatation
There are far too many Airbnb-type short-term lets in Edinburgh East. I regularly get contacted by neighbours of flats that been turned been turned into short-term lets (very often without planning consent) because their lives are being made a misery by constant comings and goings, parties on weeknights, absentee landlords not bothering to participate in shared repairs. Much of this is made even more concerning for local residents because of the Coronavirus.
But even without these aspects, we need action. Short-term letting takes houses and flats out of the rental market. It stops homes from being lived in by families, making living in Edinburgh unaffordable for far too many ordinary people because it contributes to driving up private rents.
I welcome the Scottish government's consultation on their detailed proposals for new powers to curb short-term lets.
